4th of july

As Independence Day draws closer, we must decide where to celebrate. Events are plentiful and each have their own special character. To help ease the decision making process, we have compiled some awesome events happening in the Greater South Louisiana Area.

New Orleans

Essence Music Festival

This event takes place July 1st- July 3rd and is considered the largest African-American music festival in the country. A star studded line up is set to thrill thousands of attendees in the Superdome.

Go 4th on the River

On the night of July 4th, an extravagant fireworks display will take place on New Orleans Downtown Riverfront. Viewed as one of the top five firework displays in the U.S., this event brings out thousands of spectators.

San Fermin en Nueva Orleans (Running of the Bulls)

For those who still have energy after celebrating the 4th of July, this event takes place on July 9th. Even though this event is five days after Independence Day, it is worth mentioning. Why, you ask? To put it simply…this event is hilarious. It is made to mimic the real running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain; it’s even on the same day. But rather than bulls, people on skates chase runners with plastic bats down the Central Business District in New Orleans.

Baton Rouge

USS KIDD

Looking for a family-focused event? The USS KIDD will be for you. As you tour the gigantic battleship, face painting, balloons and obstacle courses will be available. The event ends with a spectacular fireworks show.

L’Auberge Hotel Baton Rouge

L’Auberge Hotel has two offerings for 4th of July. The first is a family oriented event that takes place for free out on the front lawn. This event is open to the public and will have food and drinks available for purchase. Fireworks start at 9 P.M.

The second option is a pool party on the 12th floor of the hotel. This is a 21+ event and will have a $20 cover charge, but is open to non-guests. The event goes from 7 P.M. to midnight and will have a DJ playing music for the duration of the affair.

Lake Charles

Red, White, Blue and You!

This free event starts at 6 P.M. with a Street Parade down Ryan Street. It continues at the Lake Charles Civic Center with some soothing Bluegrass Music. After a Salute to Armed Forces, fireworks will soar over Lake Charles at  9:15 P.M. Families Welcome :)

Wherever you decide to celebrate your Independence day, have an amazing time! Happy 4th!
