You can save time and money by cooking at home!

Did you know that by just making one meal a day at home can save you on average $2,000 dollars a year? Imagine if you made 2 meals! That’s enough for that vacation you’ve always wanted to take or maybe a down payment on a new car. Sounds easy right? But maybe you think you don’t have the time to be chopping and dicing vegetables when you’ve just got back from work and you’re tired and just want to relax.

Like most people, having a home cooked meal is just something we don’t have time for. But thanks to the tried and true slow cooker you can just take 10 minutes at night for some prep work, throw it all in the slow cooker and when you head out for work the next morning all it takes is the flip of a switch or the twist of a knob and boom, 5 hours later you’ve got a house that smells great and a meal that’s going to taste just as good. An added benefit is that most slow cooker recipes are even better the next day, so that’s more meals for the cost of just one!

Here’s a rookie recipe for Taco Soup that takes about 10 minutes to prep to get you started from allrecipes.com. Guaranteed to please even your pickiest eater

1 (15.5 ounce) can black beans, undrained

1 (15 ounce) can sliced black olives

1 onion, diced

1 green bell pepper, diced

1 cup tomato juice

Directions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat; cook and stir beef until crumbly, evenly browned, and no longer pink. Drain and discard any excess grease. Transfer beef to a slow cooker and sprinkle with the taco seasoning mix and ranch dressing mix.
  2. Add the diced tomatoes and green chiles, corn, and black beans, all with their liquid, to the slow cooker. Stir the black olives, onion, bell pepper, and tomato juice into the ground beef mixture. Cook on Low until the vegetables are completely tender, about 5 hours.
